Dr. Jody Ranck, Advisor
As Director of Health Horizons and Global Health, The
Institute for The Future, Dr. Ranck's research focuses on issues
and impacts of global health trends. Previously, Jody was Director
of the Technological Politics Program at the Sustainable Sciences
Institute in San Francisco, a nonprofit dedicated to mobilizing
PCR and other biotechnologies to address public health issues
in developing countries. Prior to this research, Jody was the
Director of Research for the Waitt Family Foundation for a brief
period after leaving the University of California, Berkeley
where he was a fellow at the Human Rights Center.
At the Human
Rights Center he developed and directed a research collaboration
on the effects of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. humanitarianism
and political violence. Jody holds a BA in biology from Ithica
College, an MA in economics from Johns Hopkins University, and
a PhD in Public Health from UC Berkeley. |

Dr. Dirk Vandewalle, Advisor
Dirk Vandewalle is Associate Professor of Government at Dartmouth College, and former chair of its Asian and Middle Eastern Studies program.
His academic specialty is the political economy of North Africa
and economic liberalization in the Middle East. Dr. Vandewalle
is the author of Libya Since Independence: Oil and State-building
(Cornell University Press) and A History of Modern Libya (Cambridge
University Press), in addition to two edited volumes on Libya.
He has received a Fulbright and Social Science Research Council
grant for his research, and has been a Visiting Scholar at the
Harvard Institute for International Development and at Harvard's
Center for Middle Eastern Studies.
He is currently working on a manuscript on state-building, opposition, and institutional development in the Arab Gulf. |
